Another scare
Poor Carterman is sick again. We had quite a scare over the weekend when his temperature spiked to 105 degrees. It was so scary - we freaked out and called EMS whenthe doctor's office took too long to answer the phone - and ended up taking him to Children's Hospital, yet again. The fever eventually came down, but we left the hospital not knowing what caused the extremely high fever.
We followed up with his doctor's office on Sunday (I love that our practice has an after-hours pediatrics clinic!!!), and the doctor was quickly was able to come to a diagnosis, because she discovered that his mouth was now covered in blistering ulcers. Carter has hand, foot, and mouth disease (the doctor initially diagnosed herpangina, but the tell-tale rash on his hands and feel appeared later), which is normally pretty benign, but can occasionally cause a high fever like the one Carter expereinced.
Fortunately, Carter's fever was gone by Sunday evening. On Monday, he was extremely fussy, and spent pretty much every moment he was awake screaming (hey, I would scream too if my mouth was covered in sores! - thank goodness he also slept lot!). Today, Carter was still fussy but his mood was noticably better. I'm guessing that after tomorrow, he should be back to normal.
